Located about an hour and fifteen minutes from Tonnerre, the medieval construction site of Guédelon offers a unique experience: building a castle using 13th-century techniques and tools. A fascinating visit to understand how people built in the Middle Ages.
In the heart of the Puisaye forest, artisans, stonemasons, carpenters and blacksmiths work daily on the construction of a genuine medieval castle. Everything is done using historical methods: ancient tools, local materials and period know-how.
Visitors can walk around the construction site, observe the craftsmen at work, and discover the different stages of construction. The experience is spectacular, educational, and immersive.
Guédelon is today considered one of the most ambitious experimental archaeology projects in Europe.
