About 30 minutes from the campsite, Pontigny Abbey makes a striking impression upon arrival. Founded in the 12th century, it is now the largest preserved Cistercian church in France. Its austere architecture, typical of the Cistercian order, exudes a quiet power and a rare harmony.


Upon entering the nave, one is struck by the height of the vaults and the light that filters through the pale stones. Here, everything invites calm, contemplation, almost a suspension of time.
